Marquetry is the art of using different wood veneers to create pictures. By itself, marquetry is a wonderful art form. No power tools are needed, just a couple of craft knives and a cutting mat, so it is an ideal hobby to get into if you have little woodworking tools and limited space. Paired with furniture making, marquetry gives limitless ways to embellish your woodworking projects. In this two-day class you will learn about veneer selection, patterns, cutting techniques, glue-up options, inlaying, sanding and finishing.  With Jane’s guidance, you’ll spend the first day creating a marquetry image on to a coaster.  On day two you will be given more freedom to work on a larger picture, which is normally when you figure out what you don't know and start asking questions.  You’ll end up with a good, basic understanding of marquetry and have the confidence to begin making pictures on your own and incorporating them into your furniture pieces.

Students withdrawing from a class must notify Highland Hardware 10 or more days prior to the beginning of the class to receive full credit or refund. No refund or credit will be issued with less than 10 days' notice.
