Sculptured Rocking Chair Kit by Charles Brock

Building a beautiful and comfortable sculptured rocking chair is a challenge for any woodworker. During the past two years, Charles Brock's Sculptured Rocker Plan Bundle (DVD, book and drawings) has opened the door for woodworkers to undertake this challenge. Charles has now taken the process a step further, making available a walnut parts kit that provides all the wooden pieces necessary for constructing one of these rockers.

Starting from scratch, it normally takes an experienced woodworker about 250 hours to build this chair. This kit significantly reduces that amount of time, and in particular reduces the amount of mistakes that many woodworkers tend to make due to the complex construction.

The critical "seat to leg" joinery and the coopering and reinforcement of the seat joints are among the more complex and challenging parts of the rocker construction. With the kit, this joinery has already been performed making the joining of the legs to the seat ("legging up") quick and easy. The parts are provided already in accurately rough-shaped form, ready for the kit buyer to prepare the final fit and assembly. The laminations are pre-cut and ready for crafting the signature reverse curve rockers. Still, there is a great deal of shaping to be done by the kit builder with rasps and other tools to satisfactorily contour the various parts before, during and after final assembly.

The Sculptured Rocking Chair Kit by Charles Brock eliminates the need to purchase a number of expensive router bits, the need to have an 8" jointer, and the need to purchase a Festool Domino joining system, typically saving over $2000 in tools. This kit is comprised of American Walnut with Rosewood plugs with hard Maple strips to insert into the rocker laminations. The kit is entirely manufactured here in America.
