Figure 8 fasteners are a fast and secure way to attach table tops to table aprons while allowing for seasonal movement. Use a 3/4" Forstner bit to mortise 1/8" into the top of the apron. Secure this large end of the fastener into this mortise with a #8 x 1" screw (the other half will hang over the inside edge of the apron.) Drive another screw through this end of the fastener into the table top from underneath. The oversize hole in the fastener allows for movement. Fasteners are 1-5/16" long x 3/4" wide (large end) or 5/8" wide (small end) and 1/8" thick. Pack of 12.
