Broad axes have evolved to meet the needs of builders who create straight, square timbers from logs.
You're probably most familiar with traditional Right-Hand and Left-Hand Axes, which are made to be used on their respective sides of the log. Gransfors Bruks Right-Hand Broad Axes' heads are both bent and twisted at the forge, and they are beveled like a chisel on one side only. This lets the axe's eye and handle stand clear of the timber while the user employs a straight, easy swing to let the flat face of the axe shave the surface like a huge plane. The axe heads weigh 3 lbs., and are 7" wide. 20" textured hickory handles allow short, controlled swings for accurate work.
