This specialized tool cuts hinge & strike plate mortises accurately and very efficiently; it's faster than setting up a router, and a lot quieter and cleaner besides. A convex-edge iron sold separately turns the butt mortise plane into a scrub plane for fast, heavy stock removal that leaves an unmistakably hand-tooled look on any surface.
