Also called a shipwright's slice, the slick is the first cousin to the timber-framing chisel. Where a chisel is typically struck with a mallet for coarse work, the slick is propelled by hand for finer work on a large scale. Slicks clean up scarf joints in boat work and pare down tenon cheeks and mortise sides in timber framing. They can also be used to texture the surface of any job that needs an 'ole tyme' look.
These massive tools weigh in at over 5 lbs and are 27" long! The socketed ash handle is offset to keep you from busting your knuckles when shooting joints, and has a balled end for palm bumping that last little bit. The back of the blade is rounded for a comfortable overhand grip. A rivet-reinforced Leather Holster with Belt Loop (142016) and a stitched Leather Edge Protector (142018) are available separately. 3-3/8" wide cutting edge.
