We are pleased to be able to bring you a line of marking and measuring gear that is functional, handsome, cleverly designed, and made in America. Woodjoy's products feature all metal construction (either tool steel or brass), sturdy good looks, and a decent price. Perhaps best of all is their innovative approach to seemingly intractable layout problems , like how to carry a line around a corner without that 1/64" slip that prevents your final product from looking quite as tight as it could, or the risk of sliding bevels getting knocked out of alignment inadvertently. The people at Woodjoy talk about their tools as the kind that become "old friends" very rapidly, and after the short time we've had them around we tend to agree.
At 3" x 2" x 1/2", the Dovetail Layout Gauge is small enough to fit in an apron pocket and useful enough to keep there. Its black steel blade will lay out dovetails at either 1:6 or 1:8 up to 1-1/4" deep, and as a bonus its outer edges work as a very handy square. The contrast of black steel blade on solid brass stock makes it handsome and gives it a greater presence in the hand than its size suggests.
Woodjoys Double Dovetail Square is about the size of a small try square (slightly less than 3" x 5"), and is the way to go whenever you're setting up or cutting dovetails. Each of its twin blades has non-parallel edges; one edge is square to the stock and the opposite edge lets you lay out dovetails at either 1:6 or 1:8 slope. Construction is steel with a handsome hardwood inlay in the stock.
The Dovetail Saddle Square is a sturdy but elegant measuring tool that functions as a saddle square for carrying square lines around corners. Its tapered edges will also let you lay out dovetails at the standard 1:6 or 1:8 angles, either freehand or with reference to the straight lines at the end of your tailboard. Its weight and rigidity give this tool added utility for machine setup; simply set the two legs at the desired angle either by measurement or setting them directly against a drawing or prototype, set blade or miter gauge angle using the locked saddle square, and youre good to go. Its weight, adjustability, and beautifully-machined knuckle joint will please fidgeters for hours on end; the rest of us will have to settle for beauty and utility. Overall size 6" x 1" x 1/2".
At first glance the Total Square looks like a small engineer's square with a neat-looking hardwood inlay in the stock. Various dimensions of the square, however, are sized to useful dimensions. Every width, thickness, reveal, notch and even a diagonal yields some useful number, so that you can accurately gauge measurements of 1/16", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 3/4", 1", 2", 3", 4", and 5". All this, and its a great little square, too!
The Dovetail Template is a truly pocket-sized jig that makes it easy to lay out both the slanted and square lines for dovetails at either 1:6 or 1:8 slopes. Black steel blade for angled layout will mark dovetails up to 1-3/8" deep; brass stock for marking square lines is 1-7/16" long. Youll be tempted to call it "cute" until you pick it up and feel the weight.
