Demonstration Workshop
Most fine woodworkers' "Bucket List" of projects includes crafting a "Sam Maloof Inspired" rocking chair. The objective of Charles' two day demonstration is to provide you with the knowledge and confidence necessary to build your own comfortable and beautiful chair. He will simplify the process from choosing materials and tools to creating a wonderful fit and finish. Charles will show you how to scoop out the saddle and attach the legs utilizing the visible joinery unique to this fine chair. He will show you how to sculpt the hard and soft lines of the legs, arms, headrest and back spindles using the bandsaw, spokeshaves, rasps and scrapers. He will take the mystery out of creating the signature cyma curved laminated rockers with ebony and maple highlights. Finally, he will demonstrate the process of preparing surfaces for the application of an extraordinary oil and hand rubbed beeswax finish. Take a look at some of Charles' work. Friday night's lecture: Form follows function is included for those enrolled in the weekend class.
