Detailed Description

Build a Shaker Style End Table with Jim Dillon

Tuesday - Thursday, October 21 - October 23, 2014 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm
Class Size: 8
Hands-On Workshop

This simple but elegant Shaker styled table made from ash makes a wonderful accent side table for your living room, bedroom or office. The primary construction techniques you'll learn during the creation of this classic piece are flat panel fabrication, table leg tapering and floating tenon joinery. Although the Shakers did not use floating tenon joinery in their traditional table design, this technique offers a highly efficient method for creating strong, durable joints with no impact on the table's visual appeal. Jim will show you how to edge-glue the prepared wood to make the top and will guide you through the proper clamping techniques to maintain a flat panel. He will discuss making a jig that produces uniformly tapered legs and will help you with its use. Upon completion of this class, you'll be proud to take home a side table ready for finishing. In addition, you will learn valuable furniture building skills that will serve you well in your woodworking endeavors.

Please bring a good card scraper and a smooth plane (optional) to class. All other tools and materials are provided.
