The Carter AccuRight Log Mill is a sled used to cut raw wood logs to be square so they can be made into usable lumber on the bandsaw. It can also be used to cut a flat into a round log for natural edge bowls, circle blanks, or just about anything where a flat face is needed.

Mount a log or any irregular shaped piece of wood (up to 21" long) to the mill using the built-in clamp, then saw one side. The Log Mill rides in the miter slot of your saw so you know the cut will be straight. After the first cut, you can re-mount you workpiece in the Log Mill to cut it a second time, creating a 90° corner. Place the 90° corner against your regular bandsaw fence to resaw the log into slabs.

Note: Cutting round logs on a shop band saw should only be done with a mechanism that immobilizes the stock from shifting or rolling while cutting (like a sled with clamps). Free hand cutting round log material or making cuts on pieces where the blade exits the bottom of the material without full table support at the blade location, increases the chance an operator may experience an unexpected "event" of binding, as the material is grabbed by the blade and driven downward quickly closing the gap between the material and the table. These events can result in possible premature blade failure by weakening the band and its weld or an outright bending or breaking of the blade. You can also get your fingers smashed between the material and the table (or worse).

The Log Mill requires a 3/4" x 3/8" miter slot.
