Detailed Description
Chip Carving with Mickey Hudspeth
Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9:00am to 4:00pm
Class Size: 8
Hands on class
Chip carving is a form of relief carving in which the carver removes precise chips from the surface of the wood with a small extremely sharp knife. Mickey will demonstrate what chip carving is, the safety issues involved and demonstrate various types of cuts including cutting triangles, canoe shaped chips, rosettes and drawing and carving freehand. Then each student will practice under Mickey's supervision by chip carving on practice boards.
Students should bring their carving knives to Highland Woodworking one week prior to the class date in order for Mickey to pick them up and sharpen them for the class. Mickey strongly recommends a chip carving profile knife from either Wayne Barton, Hock Tools or Flex cut.
For your safety, when attending a hands-on class, be sure to wear closed toe footwear.
