Compass Plane
New England toolmaker Leon Robbins worked closely with chairmaker Mike Dunbar on the exact sweep and radius of this delightful plane's sole and blade, so of course it's the perfect shape for smoothing contoured chair seats after the adze and scorp have done their work. The maple body is shaped to fit your right or left hand like a glove, with a rear knob that nestles into the palm and a notch up front for the index finger. The blade is sharp enough to use as delivered. The sole is 4-7/16″ long x 2-3/8″ wide. The width of the iron is 1-3/4″. The radius of the sole across it's width is 3-13/16″. The end to end curve of the sole is approximately a 10″ radius.
