Gransfors Bruks Left-Hand Broad Axe
|
Highland Item # 125829

Detailed Description
Gransfors Bruks Left-Hand Broad Axe
Broad axes have evolved to meet the needs of builders who create straight, square timbers from logs.
You're probably most familiar with traditional Right-Hand and Left-Hand Axes, which are made to be used on their respective sides of the log. Gransfors Bruks Left-Hand Broad Axes' heads are both bent and twisted at the forge, and they are beveled like a chisel on one side only. This lets the axe's eye and handle stand clear of the timber while the user employs a straight, easy swing to let the flat face of the axe shave the surface like a huge plane. The axe heads weigh 3 lbs., and are 7" wide. 20" textured hickory handles allow short, controlled swings for accurate work.
Gransfors Bruks # 4813. Model 1900, standard scissor sharpened, left-angled.
Choosing a Broad Axe: Left Hand or Right Hand?
Broad axes (and hatchets) are described by the side of the log they cut.
A right hand broad axe is used on the right hand side of the log (when looking down the length of the log.) Consequently, a right hand broad axe has a head that is flat on the left side and a handle that deflects to the right (away from the flat face) so that it clears the log.
A left hand broad axe is used on the left hand side of the log (when looking down the length of the log.) Consequently, a left hand broad axe has a head that is flat on the right side and a handle that deflects to the left (away from the flat face) so that it clears the log.
