Japanese Yari Kanna Draw Shave - 1"

Highland Item # 146602

Detailed Description
Japanese Yari Kanna Draw Shave - 1" Japanese Yari Kanna Draw are unusual tools, descended from ancient Korean and Japanese bent chisels used for shaving and flattening surfaces, similar to adzes, drawknives and crooked knives in the West. Curved, double edged, spear-pointed "Yari kanna" can be used for ground work in relief carvings, and for creating unique hand-tooled texture on panels, frames and furniture. Forged and ground by hand in Miki City's famous Iyoroi shop, these tools feature the same laminated "white steel" backs and dense red oak handles that rank our Iyoroi bench chisels among Japan's finest. The small yari kanna is usually worked with one hand; the large model is intended for heavy two-handed use. Both edges are sharpened to permit cutting on the draw stroke or on the push, typically holding the tool palm up, using the wrist and other hand for leverage. The small chisel's blade is 3/4" wide by 2-1/4" long; overall length is about 8ǃ/2". The large yari kanna's blade is 1" wide by 4-1/4" long; its 14" handle brings overall length to 20".
