Kunz 79 Side Rabbet Plane

When Stanley unexpectedly discontinued the 79, our phones rang off the hook with folks looking to get one. Unfortunately, supply soon ran out. Thankfully, Kunz of Germany has recently reintroduced the 79.

The 79 primarily trims long grain rabbets and grooves so that cabinet backs and drawer bottoms fit better. With some care and dexterity, it will also widen cross grain dados. The 79's opposite-facing blades let you enter a cut from either direction, thus avoiding end grain blowout. An adjustable stop allows cuts down to 9/16".

Although the machining is better than on late model Stanleys, you will have to remove the paint from the depth stop, skate and the back of the tool so you don't wind up with green streaks all over the job. Overall length 5".
