Lie-Nielsen No. 8 Jointer Plane

Lie Nielsen's No. 8 bench plane may be the best No. 8 plane ever made. Though there's not many around these day, No. 8s are the largest of the Bailey pattern cast iron bench planes, 24" long and 3" wide across the sole, with a 2-5/8" iron. The body is unbreakable ductile iron, and the lever cap is bronze. Like the rest of L-N's bench planes, this massive jonter is built on the Bed Rock design, with a solid, stable frog that allows full adjustability of the throat opening while maintaining support for the iron right up to the heel of the bevel. Lie-Nielsen has beefed up the iron to match the scale of the plane; it's fully 3/16" thick, utterly rigid for superb performance. This plane's imposing size and heft make it a smooth delight to use; once you get it going it sails through the toughest wood, even reversing grain or knots, without a pause. It's great to have the king of planes still available, and we hope it stays that way for a long time to come.
