Longworth Chuck CNC Phenolic
Those interested in a Longworth chuck for their lathe would usually have to find a set of plans and try to build their own from scratch. Now you can get this high-quality, ready to use, Longworth Chuck fashioned from durable phenolic resin. The accurate CNC machining of this chuck ensures the phenolic disc plates rotate smoothly for adjusting the clamping diameter of the chuck.
The compressible silicon rubber buttons are non-marring and wont leave any scuff marks on your lathe turnings. A quick twist of the wing nuts locks the plates together and compresses the rubber buttons to finalize the grip on your work piece.
The Longworth Chuck has a steel mounting plate that fits in the jaws of your existing 4-jaw scroll chuck to hold the Longworth Chuck on your lathe. This eliminates the need to change chucks or to switch out jaws and/or move buttons.
Rubber buttons are 1" tall.
The maximum safe operating speed of the Longworth Chuck is 600 RPM.
Chuck size refers to the minimum swing* of lathes the chuck will fit. The actual phenolic disks are slightly smaller. (A 14" chuck is about 13-3/4" in diameter and will fit any lathe with a 14" or larger swing.) External gripping capacity of the chuck is approximately 2" smaller than the nominal size of the chuck.
We offer the Longworth Chuck in six sizes: 10", 14", 20" and 24".
* Swing is the maximum diameter workpiece you can turn on your lathe. If you don't know, measure from the center of your spinde to the top of the bed and double it.
