Oneway 1640 1-1/2HP Lathe

As usual, Oneway's newest lathe sets an entirely new benchmark for its class. Model 1640 brings to midsize lathes the same kind of sound engineering, meticulous construction, versatility and convenience that are the hallmarks of Oneway's industry-standard 2036 series. The new model offers 16" swing over the ways and 40" between centers. Both inboard and outboard spindle noses are threaded 33mm-3.5 pitch, which allows use of the same scroll chucks or other accessories on either spindle, and makes the lathe vacuum chuck ready as well. The inboard nose protrudes about 3" beyond its bearings, allowing great access to the back side of bowls or platters. The spindle is through-bored at 5/8" diameter. It accepts #2 Morse taper drives & accessories. The tailstock, also through-bored (5/16"), accepts #3MT accessories such as Oneway's outstanding industrial live center, included as standard equipment. The machined steel ways are supported forward of Oneway's signature 6-5/8" diameter tubular body by offset welded brackets, allowing excellent access to bowl interiors and letting most waste fall clear for easy cleanup.

Oneway's reversible drive system converts your standard 220V input to allow electronic speed control with excellent low-end torque, soft start and dynamic braking. Two step pulleys establish speed ranges of 14-700 and 51-2585 RPM. Controls are mounted on a swinging arm that can be positioned near head or tail as needed for maximum convenience and safety.

Standard equipment includes a #2MT Safe Driver drive center, Oneway live tail center, and a 4" faceplate. An optional outboard bed extension offers 24" swing over the ways, the largest capacity of any midsize lathe on the market.
