Schroeder 2-Speed Breast Drill

The Schroder breast drill is a heavy-duty eggbeater-type tool that has a contoured steel top plate you lean against for added force. This keeps both hands free for control. Unfortunately, Stanley quit making the last of these drills several years ago. The good news is that Schroeder of Germany is now offering an excellent quality version of this classic.

An enclosed box housing covers the cut-steel gears to protect clothing and fingers. The spring-loaded Schroder chuck has three hardened jaws that open just over 1/2". By switching the crank handle from one side of the tool to the other, the speed goes from about 5 revolutions per turn to 2 revolutions for added torque. Overall length 14".
