Detailed Description
Many traditional woodworking jobs require cants, blocks, or quartered logs to be riven with more precision and finesse than a maul and splitting wedge permit before the drawknife and spokeshave take over. Spoons, Windsor chair spindles, basket strips and the like come to mind, and that's where the froe comes in. Drive it with a wooden mallet or club, then use the long handle to "steer" and propel your cleft along the workpiece. We're pleased to offer an American made version of this traditional tool, with a 2" x 15" blade and 18" maple handle. The Peavey company has been making logging and woodcutting tools in Maine since the days the froe was in common use.
