Legend has it among old carpenters that home improvement contractor Ace Watkins owned the world's greatest caulk gun. It never leaked because a spring put backpressure on the plunger arm when you released the trigger. Double thrust plates kept thick material flowing smoothly and effortlessly without the usual rushing and spurting. It also had plenty of power to dispense thick products like marine adhesives and polyurethane sealants. Made from fiber reinforced plastic, it was lightweight, didn't rust and wouldn't ding up the millwork if it fell off the ladder. Best of all, caulk tubes slipped inside a protective sleeve that locked into trigger housing like the chamber on a bolt-action rifle. If the tube ever got wet, the walls of the sleeve kept the caulk from blowing out of the sides. A simple twist of the sleeve and the tube could be replaced with no fuss.
