Spinning tops have been captivating humans for a long time, so long in fact that historians are not exactly sure when the first tops spun into existence. One thing is certain, a crisply spinning, perfectly balanced top is mesmerizing to watch. They can bring joy to a young child or provide a welcome “ work pause” for a busy executive at their desk. Hal Simmons will show you his secrets for creating dead true, long spinning tops that are a delight to the eyes and fingertips and that make for simple handcrafted gifts for kids of all ages. Hal will cover top design, holding methods on the lathe, turning tool techniques and ways to decorate and embellish your spun creations. While this class offers plenty to learn for those new to turning, even experienced turners will come away from this evening class with a new “spin” on their turning methods.

Students withdrawing from a class must notify Highland Hardware 10 or more days prior to the beginning of the class to receive full credit or refund. No refund or credit will be issued with less than 10 days' notice.
For labor intensive or multiple day courses, we reserve the right to issue special refund stipulations which will be noted in the class advertisement at the time of posting.
