Detailed Description

Liberon Van Dyck Crystals

Van Dyck Crystals are an easy, convenient way to take advantage of the natural colorant properties of walnut husks, which have been used to dye fabrics and stain wood for millennia. Simply dissolve the crystals in hot water to make a rich brown dye that's traditionally used to finish oak and walnut pieces. Try this on those annoying little areas of sapwood that manage to sneak into your walnut pieces. Much easier (and less smelly) than making your own from decaying walnut husks!

A good starting point for Van Dyck crystals is 4 ounces of crystals (by weight) per quart of hot water (100g per liter), but you can change the intensity of the color by adding more or less. Apply Van Dyck dye with a sponge or brush and wipe off the excess with a clean cloth. Allow the piece to dry for 12 hours, then lightly smooth the surface with 0000 steel wool. Clean up and apply the finish of your choice. (If you plan to use a water-based top coat, we recommend you use a coat of shellac in-between. Water-based top coats may pull up the Van Dyck dye.)

250 grams (8 oz.)
