Notice About our Woodworking Classes
As a commitment to serving you as safely as possible, Highland Woodworking has suspended the sign up for our
classes until further notice. Once it's established that our classes can be held safely, we will resume sign
ups at that time. Please check back to our website for updates. We look forward to offering our classes again
soon. Finishing the Finish with Alan Noel
Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Class Size: 10
Demonstration Class
You've constructed an heirloom quality woodworking project and despite your best efforts, after spraying, wiping or brushing on numerous topcoats you find yourself with a finish that doesn't reflect all of the hours you've invested in the project. Unfortunately, the finish is the first impression one has of your piece, not your hard work picking out the wood, laying out the project and lastly, building the piece.
In this class, Alan Noel will help you to remedy your topcoat imperfections by demonstrating the last steps of the finishing process sometimes referred to as finishing the finish. You'll learn how to rub out a cured topcoat to remove imperfections and level the film finish to a smooth, flat finish with an even sheen. Alan will also demonstrate the methods involved for creating the sheen you desire; polishing up a finish to a high gloss or knocking back a gloss finish to achieve a satin sheen look. Alan will also explain the different types of rubbing compounds and materials used to finish the finish.
If you've ever wanted to get a showroom quality look from a finish you've applied on a table or desk, this is the class for you.
