Biber Classic Froe

Highland Item # 179430

Detailed Description
The Biber Classic Froe is an indispensable tool for dimensioning green logs and for making hand split “shakes” (wood shingles for roofs). The spitting action a froe provides parts wood along the wood grain fibers (called riving). You end up with long fibers running the full length of your stock that have not been severed in the manner found in wood ripped by a saw blade. This uninterrupted, straight-grain provides for exception strength and reliability. “Rived” wood is the preferred stock for successfully bending pieces used in the construction of a Windsor chair and other green wood furniture.
Mueller's Biber Classic Froe has a blade that is 13-3/4 inches long x 2 inches wide. The blade's back edge is 13/32″ thick for accepting your wooden mallet strikes. The head is securely fixed to the 15-1/2 inch long x 1-1/2 inch diameter ash handle using a round steel, safety wedge. This keeps the head permanently in place at the handle's end and prevents the unnerving sliding of the head on the handle common with other froes. Total weight is approximately 3.6 lbs. Includes a leather sheath.
