Bosch RA1151 Centering Pin and Cone

The centering pin and cone is used to precisely align a template guide with the router collet. With the template guide loosely installed, put the centering pin and cone in the router collet. Then, plunge the router until the cone seats in the template guide. While the cone holds the template guide in place, tighten it. Remove the centering pin and cone. Now your collet and template guide are perfectly aligned. This centering mandrel is made by Bosch, but will work in any router that has a 1/4" collet. The maximum diameter of the cone(and largest template guide that can be centered) is 40mm (1-9/16"). In the picture above, the cone is shown set up for a 1/4" collet. The cone needs to be removed and reversed for centering using a 1/2" collet.
