Detailed Description
Heat Lock Iron-On Veneer Glue
Heat Lock Veneer Glue is a water-based, PVA adhesive that enables you to veneer projects
without clamps, vacuum presses or toxic glues. Its low melting point is
easily achieved with a household iron (around wool setting on ours). Just
apply the glue to the back of the veneer and the top of the substrate, let
it dry (about 20 minutes) and iron the pieces together. The glue will
temporarily melt and quickly re-tack, just like iron-on edge banding. As
with edge banding, use a J-roller (#167208) or block of wood to smooth out
and press the veneer down until the glue cools and grabs.
Heat Lock dries rigid to minimize creep, so veneer tape joints and
bookmatches are no problem. Heat Lock will work with paper-backed and plain
veneers over a variety of surfaces including solid wood, plywood, particle
board and MDF. You can even use it to veneer curved surfaces like bowfront
tables.
Even though Heat Lock has a low melting point, we recommend placing a thin
towel between the hot iron and the veneer to prevent scorching. Also, we
highly recommend practicing on some scrap before tackling a finished
project. Use veneer softener (#165103) to reduce curling. Coverage is
approximately 40 square feet per pint or 320 square feet per gallon.
