Japanese Kumagoro Chisel

These "Ice Bear" brand tools are excellent general purpose butt chisels that are well suited for fine carpentry, cabinetmaking and joinery. Bevel-edge blades (12mm width and larger) forged and shaped by hand have extremely hard, durable laminated backs supported by the milder steel bulk of the blade. Dense red oak handles, mounted with a hybrid tang and socket design, are equipped with attractive hand wrought iron hoops to withstand hammer blows and heavy use; initial peening of the handle ends has been performed by the makers to be sure the hoops remain in place. Handles are 3-3/4" long; overall length is about 9".
