The first documented use of the dovetail dates back to 3,000 BCE, where it was found in ancient Egyptian boxes and coffin work. Moving forward in history, it has been found in structural beams used by the Roman Empire, boxes and cabinet work dating back to Imperial China, and more recently, similar work throughout Medieval Europe.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn this one day class, Randy will lead a discussion of the different approaches to the hand cut dovetail: Should you use a traditional Western backsaw or a Japanese saw? Cut pins first or tails first? Use a guide or not? After the discussion, you will then spend the rest of the day marking, measuring, and cutting traditional dovetails.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will walk away feeling confident that you now have the ability to go home, and with regular practice, work your way from dovetail apprentice to master at an accelerated pace.
