You can see the advantage of these ferrules if you own a double-ended gouge, or if your handle gets in the way when sharpening. Made from anodized, solid aluminum, they come with a tapered internal thread that screws onto your specially made handle. Should it loosen over time, a twist of the wrist firmly seats the handle into the socket once again.  A setscrew holds the gouge, so you can adjust the length of the tool for balance.  Sure beats a hacked off piece of copper pipe.\n  \u003c\/p\u003e\n  \u003cp\u003e\n   They readily fit Mastercut Gouges from Oneway, or other round gouges that closely match the listed openings of the ferrules. So the listed opening of the ferrules of 1\/4 inch, 3\/8 inch, 1\/2 inch, and 5\/8 inch, will relate to the outside diameter of the tool shank you are wanting to accommodate.
