We tend to use the center of the stone\n - often causing the surface to \"dish\". If the surface of a sharpening stone is not flat, you can't get a straight, sharp edge.\n  \u003c\/p\u003e\n  \u003cp\u003e\n   Shapton's Diamond Glass Lapping plate (DGLP) is specifically designed to precision flatten your waterstones. It uses a diamond\n abrasive electro-deposited to a glass substrate that is flat to +\/- 5 microns. The surface has grooves to allow the swarf to flow \n away during flattening.
