Class Description
Have you ever wanted to create a beautiful and practical piece for your kitchen? In this one-day class, you'll learn the basics of spindle turning on a lathe to craft your very own peppermill!
This beginner-friendly class with Jeff Wyatt will guide you through every step; from safely using the lathe to shaping the wood, assembling the grinding mechanism, and applying a finish.
Here's what you'll learn:
- Lathe safety procedures and proper tool handling.
- Basic spindle turning techniques, including roughing, shaping, and smoothing.
- Preparing and installing grinding mechanism.
- Finishing techniques to enhance your peppermill's beauty.
At the end of the day, you'll leave with:
- A handcrafted peppermill, ready to grind that you can use yourself, or give as a handmade gift.
- The skills and confidence to tackle future woodturning projects.
This class is perfect for:
- Anyone interested in woodworking and learning a new skill.
- DIY enthusiasts who want to create a personalized kitchen piece.
- People looking for a fun and rewarding hands-on experience.
Please bring the following items with you to class. We recommend working with the tools you use at home over using the ones we have available, as it makes the transition from class to home much easier:
- Pencil
- Any lathe tools you own and prefer to use
- Tape Measure
- Dial Caliper, and other calipers you would rather use
- Comfortable Eye Protection
- Dust Mask
For your safety, be sure to wear closed toe footwear and remove all jewelry before class.
