Detailed Description
Veritas Spokeshaves Veritas spokeshaves are designed for smooth, effective shaping. High-quality manufacturing ensures they are easy to use - no fettling required. The 1/8" thick PM-V11 blade machined lever cap and flat blade bed result in chatter-free cutting in nearly all conditions. The ductile cast iron body is fitted with hardwood handles. You can rest you thumb on the toe so you can choke up on the body for fine control. Twin adjustment wheels precisely control blade depth and skew. Adjust the mouth as needed with the included shims. Flat and Round SpokshavesFlat and round spokseshaves use a 2-1/8" wide blade. The flat spokeshave is primarily used for shaping flat or convex surfaces. The sole of the round shave is curved from front to back at a radius of 1-3/4" so it can be used to shape concave surfaces. These are the spokeshaves that most woodworkers will use. ConcaveThe sole of the concave spokeshave is a concave curve from left to right with a radius of 1-5/16". It is used for shaping spindles. Made in Canada. Specifications - Ductile Cast Iron Body

PM-V11 SteelAll of the Veritas spokeshaves, bench planes, block planes and shoulder planes that we stock have PM-V11 steel blades. Veritas conducted extensive testing and determined that PM-V11 offers the best balance of hardness, edge retention and ease of sharpening in tool steels. It hones to a very fine edge and can easily be sharpened with commonly available sharpening abrasives. From Veritas PM-V11 is a powdered metal (PM) alloy. To form a PM alloy, constituent metals are melted and mixed together, then atomized, creating very small particles that cool and harden, forming a powder. This powder is screened to ensure consistent particle size, and then heated under pressure to form a billet. The billet is then rolled to the required thickness, ready to process as a conventionally smelted steel would be. The PM process yields a steel with a very fine grain structure that is uniform throughout.
