Woodburning (or pyrography) has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years. Weller's inexpensive kit is a wonderful way to introduce yourself or an older child to this ancient craft. The kit contains everything you need to get started except the wood. It includes: a 25-watt short barrel woodburning iron w/stand, 6 metal woodburning tips, three decorative branding irons, a hot knife tip w/blade chuck and a pattern transfer tip (see below), all in a plastic storage container. Also included are dozens of designs and letters ready to be transferred to your project. The instructions give plenty of useful hints and ideas. We think it's a good value.

Transfer Tip

Anything you can photocopy or print from a laser printer can be transferred to wood, leather, terra cotta and more with this ingenious little tool. Photocopy any design you like, in color or black & white, lay it face down on your work and iron it with the Transfer Tool's 3/4" round brass head. Note that images and type transferred directly from the original will come out reversed. Print a reversed image from your computer, or xerox onto clear acetate, invert and re-copy to make a reverse for accurate transfers. Plans, patterns and even photos can be transferred cleanly and with crisp detail---the possibilities are remarkable.
