Detailed Description
Whiteside Plunge Stile Router Bit
Whiteside Plunge Stile Bits are used to create the look of raised panel doors in MDF or solid wood construction. The Plunge Panel Bit forms the narrow stile profile around the "rails" and "stiles" of the door. It works best when paired with a Whiteside Plunge Panel Bit, which creates the look of the raised panel profile.
These bits were originally designed for use in production CNC machines, but they can still be used by the home shop woodworker. You'll just have to add some guide bearings and use a template.
The guide should be four strips clamped around the perimeter of the door. The top strip can even be curved for an arched pattern. Both profiles are routed without moving the template.
Use a 1/2" ID x 1-1/4" OD bearing on the stile bit and a 1/2" ID x 1-7/8" OD bearing on the panel bit. (Each bearing needs to be secured with a lock collar.)
Rout with the plunge stile bit first, then with the plunge panel bit. Set the depth of the plunge panel bit to match the depth cut by the plunge stile bit for a standard look or a little deeper for an additional step in the profile. The offset created by the bearing on the plunge panel bit will allow you to use the same template without any adjustments.

About WhitesideWhiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 in Bill Whiteside's basement where he supplied tooling to NC's huge furniture making industry. Whiteside is still family-owned but has now grown to occupy a 40,000 square foot factory in Claremont, NC.
Whiteside offers a full range of router bits. Their rigid quality control and precision manufacturing techniques have repeatedly resulted in highest ratings in Fine Woodworking magazine tool reviews.
In the years that we've sold Whiteside router bits, we've experienced the company's commitment to excellent quality and superb customer service. We think you'll be pleased each time you use these fine tools in your shop. We toured the Whiteside factory in Episode 1 of The Highland Woodworker. Watch the whole episode or just the factory tour (about 6:30).
