Detailed Description

Woodpeckers Mini Carbide Scraper

The Mini Carbide Scraper by Woodpeckers is a hand-held scraper sized just right for single handed glue-scraping chores. It makes use of a standard 15mm x 15mm (approximately 9/16" by 9/16") four-sided, carbide tooling insert cutter as a scraping blade. The cutter blade has 4 usable edges and being made from carbide, will stay sharp for a very long time. You only need to loosen a single screw to quickly rotate the insert to a fresh, sharp edge.

The included standard cutter has a slight camber to each edge making it less likely to mar your work surface and which lets you pinpoint your scraping efforts to a very small area (like right atop a thin glue line on panel edge glue ups).

An optional straight edge insert lets you scrape into corners with 90° precision for removing glue from the square corners found inside drawer and carcass glue ups. The tool can be pushed with the handle held at a low angle to the work surface for more aggressive scraping, or you can tilt the handle to a higher angle and use a pull stroke for a more refined scraping action.

The polycarbonate molded handle measures 5-1/4" long by 1-3/8" wide by 7/16" thick, fits nicely into the grip of your hand and its mini-size allows you access into areas other scrapers can't go. Because solid carbide does not rust and the handle is plastic, you can rinse off any liquid glue easily with water, without fear of causing rust.

You can use this scraper for many other types of scraping chores including scraping off old paint and varnish finishes on your furniture restoration projects, removing dried veneer tape, scraping paint & dried caulking from tight areas on house trim work and removing dried glazing putty from wood window mullions.

Use the Mini Carbide Scraper by Woodpeckers for the tasks of scraping away dried, hard glue that ends up in tight areas where regular scrapers won't fit, sparing the wear and tear on the honed edges of your fine cabinet chisels.

To reduce your time spent scraping dried glue, strive to apply a judicious amount of glue for your projects. Applying enough glue doesn't have to mean applying too much. The goal is to have just a small amount of even squeeze out from the joint upon clamping. A little bit of squeeze out informs you the joint was not starved for glue. If you have the luxury of being in the shop 30 minutes after a white or yellow glue application, check the texture of the glue squeeze out. If you can time it when the glue is rubbery in texture, without liquid wetness, but not yet hard, the glue will easily scrape off with less mess and less chance of tear out damage to the wood.
