Some New Year's Thoughts And What Is Coming Next Month

First, I have to say that I am honored, humbled, and excited to be visiting the Highland Woodworking team and store the weekend of January 24-25, 2015. On Sunday I will be teaching a 5S Shop Organization and Efficiency class . In it, I will explain how you can adapt the key principles of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to your woodworking shop.

Through exercises, examples, and explanation, this class will help you improve workflows, stay better organized, save money, and have more space. If you want to make the most of your shop time, turn out better work, and have more fun, this is the class for you! It will be my sincere pleasure and a real New Year's treat to meet as many of Highland Woodworking's great customers as possible. Look forward to seeing you!

Be sure to visit the Highland Woodworking Blog . In it I've posted my New Year's resolutions… well, in reality, resolution. Not plural… I really am only committed to one thing for 2015. There are plenty of other thought-provoking resolutions in the blog though, so check it out!

Next month I am getting back on track building the leopardwood frame (the holidays really rocked, but interrupted my shop time somewhat!) and we will continue to look at purpose-built shop storage and fixtures designed to optimize our 5S efforts.

Also next month we will look at a potential new business opportunity for woodworkers with good mechanical skills. We will explore and compare another shop commodity product… let's see… we've done paper towels, waxed paper, hmmm... I think it's time to look at… well, let it be a surprise!
