My shop is located in a one car garage which measures 13 feet by 25 Feet, approximately 325 square feet.
Woodworking, especially building reproduction furniture and restoring antiques, has been a lifelong dream. Since I was about 13 years old, I have liked making things out of wood. I have followed several television personalities like Norm Abram, Roy Underhill and several others, watching and learning. Fine Woodworking writers like Mike Pekovich have been an inspiration and by watching their activities they were my teachers.
The space limitations in my shop have made it crucial to put nearly every piece of equipment on wheels. At the same time, efficient grouping of tools makes workflow reasonably good. A Jointer, planer, radial arm saw, table saw and 14 inch bandsaw are the core power tools. These are supplemented by two lathes, router table, spindle sander and drum sander and of course a good drill press. The dust is controlled by a two stage dust collection system. Restoration work requires the proper hand tools. My somewhat modern planes include some wood river modern planes, a lot of antique Stanley planes including a router plane and Stanley 45. These are supplemented by antique wooden planes, some of which are several hundred years old. These along with a collection of chisels and other tools are supported by a dedicated sharpening station.
My shop has the following tools in it. Many are old:
- 10 inch Craftsman radial arm saw
