Here's My Woodcarving!

by Sylvia Hilpertshauser
Switzerland

Last summer I finished my apprenticeship as a woodcarver at the Swiss school of Woodcarving in Brienz, Switzerland. I decided to become a woodcarver after my first apprenticeship as a a medical assistant. There were a few reasons for this decision:

Since I was young I loved doing drawing and painting which is also a big part of a woodcarvers daily work. Besides, I had the wish to do something relating to a trade, to build something at which you can see the progress at every day's end.

I like nature and its forms and materials a lot so that is the main reason I found my perfect occupation in woodcarving.

Beneath you can see some of the carvings I did during my apprenticeship:

Closed Music Box: Flower Waratah, diameter 30 cm, lime

Giraffe on top of a pillow, lime, height: 30 cm
