I started a small carving and art business in April of last year and the most perplexing thing for me was that I could not accurately cut blocks of wood on the band saw into the dimensions I needed without a lot of waste. I talked to woodworkers, sales people, anyone I thought that might have an answer to how to cut the blocks without the blade curving and wasting the wood. None of the suggestions worked. The manager at the store where I bought my band saw was ordering me a 1/2 inch blade he thought might fix the problem. An older gentleman that was a customer at the store overheard my problem and stepped in to help me. He told me about re-sawing which I had never heard of and suggested a re-saw blade. I went on the Internet and found Highland Woodworking and a good explanation of re-sawing. I ordered the blade and it is amazing how perfect the cuts are.
This has changed everything for me. I had stopped taking orders for larger pieces because it meant cutting large blocks and getting the blade stuck, the smell of burning wood, and wasted blocks. Those big blocks are expensive. It was pure dread for me if I had to cut a large basswood block. I even wondered if I should quit the business.
As of today and the great success I had cutting a large block perfectly I think I can do anything I want to do now. It sliced absolutely straight, no curving, easy as can be. What a different place I would be now if I had known this from the start! How nice it was to have instructions from Highland Woodworking to read from the website too.
Thank you so much. Jennifer C.
