Norton's premium quality, cool-running grinding wheels are made from sharp, friable aluminum oxide. The wheels are best for sharpening quality, hardened, high speed tool steel & carbon tool steel found in woodworking tools like chisels, plane irons, wood turning tools, carving tools and kitchen knives. Aluminum oxide wheels run cooler than standard carborundum wheels (usually the gray colored wheels found on home center bench grinders) and so are less likely to draw the temper from the steel of your quality edge-cutting tools.

The vitreous bond that holds the aluminum oxide particles together is designed to release easily to constantly expose fresh, sharp particles. This results in a cooler running wheel that works efficiently as it grinds, with reduced burning and less glazing. Available in 6″ x 3/4″ and 8″ ×1″ wheel sizes with 1″ arbor holes. The 6" wheel includes bushings to fit down to a 1/2" shaft and the 8" wheel includes bushings to fit down to a 5/8" shaft.

Available in extra fine (150X), fine (100X) and medium (60X) grits. (Many wood turners seem to prefer the 60 grit because it quickly provides a good burr for your wood turning tools in the shortest possible time, letting you quickly get back to work on the lathe.)

Maximum operating speed for the 6″ wheels is 4140 RPM and for the 8″ wheels 3600 RPM.
