General Finishes Milk Paint is a modern, acrylic version of the traditional casein-based paint used on old world furniture. It is easy to apply and ready-to-use out of the can. It has a low-luster sheen similar to traditional milk paints. It is durable enough for interior and exterior projects.
Whether you have projects that need a historic, period look, like a traditional early American Windsor chair or you've got some old furniture pieces needing a refinished “rustic” look, the distinct hue and sheen provide by milk paint is a great choice. Colors can be intermixed for custom tones. Adding snow white or lamp black to colors lets you create shades of variation for a particular color.
The low sheen of milk paint is useful because compared to high gloss paint, any imperfections of the substrate being painted will be less obvious to the eye. This makes it a perfect paint choice even for furniture that's a bit rough around the edges.
Application
Milk paint can be applied by brush, roller or sprayer (use a 1.8mm-2.0mm tip with an HVLP sprayer) and features easy water cleanup. Coverage is 50-60 square feet per pint and 100-120 square feet per quart. General Finishes recommends 2 or more coats. Milk paint dries to the touch in about 30 minutes and can be re-coated and about 2 hours. See the directions for details. Unlike traditional powdered milk paint, General Finishes Milk Paint does not require a top coat to prevent water spotting of the paint. You can add a top-coat if desired, to alter the sheen and provide a clear, top-coat film for protection.
