If your turning leads you toward ever larger and more ambitious work, Oneway has a lathe that will take you there and serve you well throughout your turning career. Oneway's 2000 Series lathes are built for serious turners, with industrial-duty design and construction throughout. The massive 10-3/4" diameter tube that forms the body of the lathe provides not only great mass and stiffness, but nearly perfect torsional rigidity as well. A wide pedestal foot under the headstock stabilizes the machine regardless of the size or imbalance of any workpiece, while the open base design gives your feet unobstructed access to any position you need for inboard work. The switch is mounted on a pivoting arm that can be positioned for convenient access adjacent either headstock or tailstock. (It lets you start up safely out of the way of very large blanks, too).
Oneway's outstanding electronics package converts your shop's normal 220-volt, single phase input to 3-phase current within the switch, allowing constant-torque variable speed control with exceptional low-end power. The spindle turns as slowly as 30 RPM, with unstoppable power at speeds as low as 100 RPM in either forward or reverse. A three-sheave step pulley lets you choose the speed range best suited to your work: 30-800, 30-1800, or 30-3000 RPM.
The 2" diameter headstock spindle is mounted in 4 sealed ball bearings which together virtually eliminate any trace of radial or axial play. The spindle is through-bored at 5/8" diameter; the inboard nose accepts #2 Morse taper accessories. The spindle nose and the outboard spindle are both threaded at 33mm x 3.5. The headstock includes a spindle lock and a 48-position indexing head with precise tapered pin. The outboard spindle nose features right-hand thread, an unusual convenience that lets you install any of your inboard chucks or faceplates, reverse the motor, and turn outboard with the stock rotating counterclockwise. This not only saves you the expense of duplicate chucks but also allows you to turn outboard with exactly the same tools and techniques you're accustomed to using for inboard turning.
The tailstock's 1-1/2" diameter ram accepts a #3 Morse taper to accept industrial-duty accessories, such as the double-bearing multi-function live center that comes standard with the lathe. The tailstock is through-bored for 5/16" lamp augers. Standard equipment includes a 6" cast iron faceplate, 14-1/2" toolrest with 1" post, a #2 Morse taper "Safe Driver" drive center, and a commercial-duty #3 Morse taper live center.
Lathe Sizes
The 2000 Series lathes are available in 20" or 24" swing (the maximum diameter workpiece the lathe can swing . Either swing is available in either 16" or 36" between centers. (The maximum length of spindle you can turn between centers.) Oneway lathe models numbers 4-digit code with the swing first and the between centers capacity second. Thus, a 2436 lathe is a 24" swing lathe that can handle up to 36" between centers.
