The special motorized upper bed (an industry first) effortlessly increases your turning capacity from 20" to 40" long in about half a minute! As an added bonus, fully extending the sliding bed bumps the swing up to 31-1/4" from 23-7/32". We’re talking small salad bowls and large platters for every occasion!
This space-saving lathe is super heavy-duty, made of solid cast iron and steel construction that clocks in at a little over 550 lb! Along with that stability, it comes with a surprisingly acceptable footprint of only long 61-5/8" and 30-1/8" wide fully closed for easy storage. When fully open, the length of the bed reaches 81-5/8", so picking up a set of the Rikon 70-971 Caster Wheels will afford you the ultimate flexibility when using, moving and putting away this monster in your shop or garage.
Versatility is nice but what about power? The 70-3040 comes equipped with a massive 3 hp 220 V motor. The motor is totally enclosed and fan cooled (TEFC) so you don’t have to worry about wood chips and other detritus gumming up the works. In the headstock are 4 heavy duty bearings that bring all of that power down to levels of precision not even seen in smaller more project focused lathes. Using the magnetic digital speed controls, you can spin your projects right round at 20 to 3,850 rpms!
With all of these industry leading features, Rikon doesn’t skimp on the warranty either offering a full 5 years of coverage! Included in the box are a 4-prong drive center, a really nice tool rest, live tail center, faceplate and knock out bar. This isn't your grandfather or father's lathe; this is your lathe!
