Starrett Combination Square — See our Combination Square Instructional Video.
The Starrett combination square is one of the most versatile and useful marking and measuring tools in the woodworking shop. Carefully machined and manufactured in the USA since 1878, Starrett squares are known for their accuracy, reliability, precision and long service life. Dead accurate like a high quality engineer's square, and far more versatile and precise than a try square, a Starrett combination square has a head made from durable cast iron or hardened steel. The rules (blades) are hardened, tempered steel with photo-engraved graduations that will never wear out and have a non-glare satin chrome finish. Often copied, but rarely duplicated, a Starrett combination square will be a tool you will rely on year after year for accurate joint layout, checking your work for perfect square & 45 degree angles, and for accurately setting up your woodworking machines.
Starrett Combination Square Heads
The standard combination square head has a 90° face and a 45° face. It is used for check square or 45° on everything from table saw blades to jointed edges of boards.
It includes a built-in spirit level and a hardened steel steel scribing pin. The center head is used to find the center of round workpieces (dowels, small table tops, etc.)
The protractor head is used to precisely measure angles.
All three heads come in cast iron with a black wrinkle finish. The standard head and center head are also available in hardened steel with a glossy black finish.
Hardened steel heads are typically used by metal workers.
The heart of the combination square is the locking bolt. All three types of head use Starrett's precise, reversible and reliable locking bolt. It locks the blade in place with just a few turns and
keeps the blade square without slipping through many years of service.
Starrett Combination Square Blades
All of our Starrett combination squares have hardened steel blades with a satin chrome finish. The satin chrome finish reduces glare and makes the rule easier to read.
Our inch graduated Starrett combination squares use the #4R inch graduation pattern on their blades. One side of the blade has quick reading 64ths & 32nds. The other side of the
blade has 16ths and 8ths. The blade can be mounted in the square in all four positions so that your preferred scale is in the best position.
Our metric-inch graduated Starrett combination squares use the #35 graduation pattern. They have 1/2mm and 1mm graduations on both sides of the blade.
Combination Square Sets
Standard combination squares come with the blade (rule) and the standard square head. Combination square sets add the center head and protractor head and come in a fitted plastic case.
