Here's My Woodworking!
By Bob Wilson
Dahlonega, GA

For my most recent project, I turned a large, red oak tree that had been in my yard into a beautiful table.

I had the tree milled and dried it in my garage for a week until I had 10 percent on my moisture meter. I used a humidifier, fans and electric heaters, which raised the electric bill by $100!

A large, red oak in front yard was loaded with beetles.

The Shop Fox mortiser worked well and had the power. The new
bits come dull so I had to enter a whole new world of
sharpening them.

The breadboard edge helped to straighten the crowns a lot. Glued the
two in the center and let the ends float for expansion.

Used easy cast epoxy in small pours and made a rock river with
Dahlonega gold and green Brazilian agate pebbles.

15 coats of clear, oil-based polyurethane.

I wet sanded it with 2000 grit and polished it with auto polishing compound using a hook and loop buffer on my orbital sander. I like the project as it tells a story on its own with the river and gold from the mining town of Dahlonega, GA.

Below are a few more of my woodworking projects:

A cabin I built on Bald Mountain near Homer, Alaska. The logs were cut
standing dead and snow machined to the final location of the cabin.

Teak spear gun with Alexander mechanism.

Oak, laminated counter top for a dentist's office. Ripped narrow strips
of oak, glued, screwed, bent and clamped them into the final shape.

Wenge inlay in the top of an oak desk. Desk was built out of
scrap material I had on hand.

My custom logo.
