- Class includes a lunch break. You can bring your lunch or eat at one of the restaurants in the area.
- This class takes place at our store in Atlanta.
Class Description
If you are one of those woodworkers that has precious offcuts that cant be thrown away in hopes of waiting for that perfect project, or if you have limited shop time, but need to keep creating beautiful, useful objects in wood, then this class is for you. Spoons are fun to carve, and allow for lots of creativity and can be carved almost anywhere with a few simple sharp tools. It also teaches you about the characteristics of wood and of the different species. You will begin by roughing on the bandsaw, then move into using carving tools to refine your spoons. You will come away with a functional spoon and the knowledge to carve many more. Jay will cover the following strategies for hand carving wooden spoons:
• Sourcing the wood using scraps, green wood or firewood
• Safety
• Design Considerations
• Work Holding Strategies
• Finishing Choices
• Tools and Tool Sharpening
• Greenwood carving demonstration
Wood and spoon blanks will be provided
This class will cover all skill levels. Basic knowledge of how wood works is
helpful.

For your safety, be sure to wear closed toe footwear and remove all jewelry before class.
Class Cancellation Policy
Highland Woodworking reserves the right to cancel any class. Full refunds will be issued in that event. Students withdrawing from this class must notify Highland Woodworking 14 or more days prior to the beginning of the class to receive full credit or refund. No refund or credit will be issued with less than 14 days' notice.
