Crucible Bench Square Mark II
The Crucible Bench Square Mk. II is a handy, lightweight and accurate tool that's useful for many woodworking operations. Based on early European examples made in solid wood, the Lost Art Press version uses modern technology to ensure it is accurate and stays that way.
The Crucible Bench Square has its blades pitched at four useful angles: 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°. So you can mark and check your work against all these common working angles. The tool's square end is nice for marking crosscuts with either a pencil or knife. Additionally, the built-in angles can be used to check sawn miters for accuracy and even set the tilt of your table saw's blade.
The antique originals were typically made from one piece of walnut, so they were fragile and tended to go out of square because of wood movement. This version has a blade that is made from 1/4" Baltic birch that is laser cut so its dead-nuts accurate, immune to wood movement and has no short grain. Then it is joined to a maple stock that is machined for a perfect fit. After assembly, the Crucible Bench Square is trued up on machinery to ensure the 45 and 90° are perfect enough for woodworking. The tool is supplied without a finish, like most wooden bench tools.
There is a hang hole so you can keep it close under your workbench. The square measures 4-1/2" x 8-1/2" and weighs 2.4 oz.
If you would like to make this square for yourself, there are instructions in the Lost Art Press book Euclid's Door . But if you want yours to be perfect (for woodworking) right from the start, this Crucible Bench Square is a great value.
As always, all their tools are made in the U.S.A. This square's parts are made in Ohio and assembled in Kentucky.
We do not sell Crucible tools to resellers.
We reserve the right to cancel any order we believe to be from a reseller.
