A radial drill press has capabilities lacking in a standard floor or benchtop drill press. With a drilling assembly that turns on an axis, this radial action means you don't have to tilt the drill press table to drill angled holes. The work piece stays horizontal, the drill head tilts and the drill bit penetrates at the desired angle. This solves the problem of drilling holes in a long board that can't be tilted far enough for the necessary angle because the bench top gets in the way. It also makes jobs requiring lots of angled holes, like chair-making or installing balusters in stair railings, a lot easier.

On radials the shaft that serves as the drilling axis also can be pulled forward, up to 17 inches, allowing you to drill a hole in the center of a work piece that's up to 34 inches wide. That's at least twice the capacity of any standard benchtop drill press. It also gives you the ability to drill into the end of a long work piece such as a table leg. And, since you can tilt the work piece all the way to horizontal you can even drill into the end of a bed post.

The RIKON 30-140 34" Radial Bench Drill Press is designed to deliver just such capabilities, and it is well-suited to a range of professional and do-it-yourself applications. This drill press features a telescopic design that gives you more options than a standard drill press.

The 30-140 is powered by a 1/3-horsepower motor with plenty of torque for all kinds of drilling operations. It offers five spindle speeds from 620 to 3,100 RPM, and it comes with a speed-selection chart so you can match the correct speed to the job. It features a 34-inch swing with a head that tilts 45 degrees to the right and 90 degrees to the left. The head also moves back and forth to permit drilling in the center of wide boards or drilling multiple holes along a center line. A 3-1/8" spindle travel provides deep drilling capacity for tough jobs, while a clutch depth stop to set the drill depth quickly and easily for repetitive drilling. It incorporates an MT2 spindle taper to accommodate quick changes between chuck arbors and end mill bits.

The 30-140 has large feed handles for smooth operation. The 7-3/4" square table handles different-sized materials readily and rotates a full 360 degrees around the shaft. The column is anchored in a heavy cast iron 13-5/8" by 8-5/16" base for stability. Rack and pinion gearing allows easy table height adjustment with the turn of a handle.
