The Rikon 10-310 is our recommendation for anyone looking for a capable bandsaw to augment work with a larger saw, or someone venturing into small scale woodworking like bandsaw boxes, shapes, limited resawing, & patterns. What's particularly attractive about this saw is the price point.
The worst enemy of a bandsaw & blades is tension. It can fatigue blades early, fatigue bearings in your bandsaw, and flatten the urethane or rubber on your wheels so that a restart produces a thump, thump sound. Being able to apply & release tension with a lever, especially in a reasonably priced 10" bandsaw, is pretty useful. A significant improvement on the 10-310 is its tension release mechanism, previously only available on the more expensive 10-3061 10" saw. The tension release mechanism makes setting up, using, and leaving the saw until next weekend so much easier.
The 10-310 cabinet is made of a thinner sheet metal than its predecessor, the 10-305. Compensating for that change, the 10-310 now comes with an open stand. (It is not bench mount). You can install a shelf below to store gear & material as needed. On a flat garage surface, the 10-310 stand provides stability that the 10-305 could not out of the box.
